



The horizontal mixer——often referred to in the industry as a horizontal ribbon mixer——is a low-speed, horizontal convective mixing device designed specifically for the uniform blending of powders, granules, viscous pastes, and mixtures of powders with small amounts of liquid. Drawing on over a decade of experience in manufacturing livestock and poultry manure processing equipment, Huaqiang Heavy Industry has optimized the machine's structure; this unit serves as an essential pre-processing batching component in complete organic fertilizer production lines.

The complete unit consists of six main components: a U-shaped mixing vessel, a dual-layer ribbon agitator shaft, a drive and reduction assembly, a sealing assembly, a bottom discharge valve, and an electrical control system.
U-shaped mixing vessel: Common materials include carbon steel, 304 stainless steel, and 316L stainless steel; for processing organic fertilizer or livestock manure, a thickened stainless steel vessel is preferred for its corrosion and rust resistance. An access/loading port is located at the top, and a fully opening hatch allows personnel to easily clean residual material from the vessel walls.
Dual-layer ribbon agitator shaft: The outer spiral blades push material from the vessel walls toward the center, while the inner ribbon pushes material from the center toward the ends, creating a circulating flow. When processing clumped manure, optional high-speed chopping blades can be installed to break up agglomerated material or clumps remaining after semi-wet material crushing.
Drive assembly: A cycloidal pin-wheel reducer is directly coupled to the motor, resulting in a compact drive structure; it provides shock absorption during overloads, protecting the main shaft from twisting damage caused by hard materials.
Shaft-end sealing structure: Fine fertilizer powder tends to leak out through the gaps around the main shaft; Huaqiang Heavy Industry utilizes upgraded airtight seals to minimize dust leakage during prolonged, continuous operation.
Discharge valve: Standard equipment includes a pneumatic flap discharge valve; the valve sits flush with the inner wall of the vessel, virtually eliminating mixing dead zones. For viscous, paste-like materials, the discharge mechanism can be swapped for a butterfly valve.
Optional jacket structure: An external jacket can be added to the vessel to circulate cooling water or high-temperature heat-transfer oil, enabling material cooling or heating for fermentation pre-treatment—suitable for temperature-controlled bio-fertilizer processing.
The horizontal mixer's motor drives the horizontal main shaft to rotate at a constant speed, while dual-layer counter-rotating ribbons propel the entire material load in an axial, reciprocating circulation pattern. The outer ribbon gathers material from the periphery, and the inner ribbon pushes material from the center outward, creating eddy-current convection and vertical turnover within the mixing vessel. Unlike high-shear mixers, ribbon mixing is a low-speed, gentle process; this minimizes the risk of breakage for granular fertilizer ingredients, thereby ensuring the integrity of the granules and maintaining consistent ingredient quality prior to disc granulation.
It serves as standard mixing equipment for compound fertilizers, bio-organic fertilizers, decomposed livestock/poultry manure, soil amendment substrates, and microbial fertilizer ingredients. Many clients use it in conjunction with trough-type compost turners; after manure decomposition, the material is fed into the horizontal mixer to be blended with straw powder, humus soil, and fermentation starter cultures.
Used for mixing feed ingredients for pigs, poultry, and aquaculture, as well as mineral additives and powdered pharmaceutical excipients.
Used for mixing putty powder,“real stone” paint, dry-mix mortar, metal powders, refractory materials, and plastic powders.
Stainless steel units customized to GMP standards are used to blend food additives, pharmaceutical powders, and raw materials for powdered agricultural insecticides.
