The vertical disc mixer (also known as a disc mixer or vertical disc-type mixer) is a piece of equipment that utilizes a vertical disc as its mixing vessel and achieves material blending through the high-speed agitation action of mixing teeth or arms. It is widely used for raw material mixing processes across various industries, including organic fertilizer, compound fertilizer, chemicals, mining, and construction materials.

The core working principle of the vertical disc mixer lies in the combination of “centrifugal throwing”and “gravity-driven dispersion.” The main body of the equipment consists of a vertically positioned rotating disc, with sets of mixing blades arranged at specific angles mounted on the disc's base. An electric motor drives a high-torque cycloidal pin-wheel reducer, which rotates the main shaft; the shaft, in turn, drives the mixing blades to agitate the material.
After entering the disc through the top inlet, the material is lifted to a higher position by the mixing blades and subsequently falls in a parabolic trajectory under the influence of gravity. During this process, the material particles undergo extensive collision, intermingling, and dispersion, causing raw materials of varying specific gravities and particle sizes to engage in intense relative motion within a three-dimensional space. Unlike horizontal mixers that rely on ribbon-driven forced propulsion, the vertical disc mixer utilizes the shearing interaction between the rotating base and fixed mixing blades to create complex vortex-like motion within the disc, achieving comprehensive, multi-directional mixing——from bottom to top and from the inside out.
The vertical disc mixer consists of three main sections: the frame assembly, the drive and transmission assembly, and the mixing assembly.
All functional components of the machine are mounted and secured to the frame. The frame is constructed by welding high-quality carbon steel plates and channel steel; it undergoes rigorous manufacturing processes to ensure operational stability and safety.
A cycloidal pin-wheel reducer drives the rotation of the main shaft, utilizing a nylon pin coupling for power transmission. This drive system is characterized by a compact structure, smooth operation, and low noise levels. The interior of the disc can be optionally lined with polypropylene or stainless steel plates, which are wear-resistant and prevent material adhesion.
Power is transmitted from the drive mechanism to the main shaft via a pin coupling. Fixed mixing teeth are mounted on the shaft, which rotates to thoroughly mix and blend the materials. The design of the mixing assembly directly determines the mixing quality and the equipment's efficiency.
Vertical disc mixers are primarily used for mixing raw materials and play a key role across various industries:
Fertilizer Industry: They serve as core ingredient-mixing equipment in the production of organic fertilizers, compound fertilizers, and bio-organic fertilizers. Within an organic fertilizer production line, the vertical disc mixer typically acts as a central mixing hub, positioned after the crushing and screening stages and before the granulator. Materials mixed uniformly by this machine yield higher pelletization rates and more consistent granule strength when processed in the granulator.
Chemical Industry: Suitable for the batch homogenization of powders or low-viscosity slurries in the fine chemical industry.
Construction Materials Industry: Can be used for mixing raw materials for construction products.
Food and Pharmaceutical Industries: Suitable for mixing food seasonings and pharmaceutical raw materials. For food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade applications, stainless steel models are recommended; our stainless steel mixer series meets sanitary standards.
