The drum screener machine is a piece of screening equipment composed of a motor, a speed reducer, a drum assembly, a frame, a sealing cover, and inlet/outlet ports. Its core component is an inclined cylindrical drum, the surface of which is fitted with a screen mesh featuring specific aperture sizes tailored to process requirements. As material enters the drum from the feed end, it continuously tumbles and cascades with the drum's rotation; particles smaller than the mesh apertures pass through the screen for discharge, while larger particles flow out from the discharge end of the drum.

The fertilizer drum screener machine is specifically designed for the production of powdered and granular organic and compound fertilizers, serving as specialized auxiliary equipment for fertilizer production lines. It is primarily used to separate finished products from oversize material (recycled material) and can also perform multi-stage grading to ensure the finished products are uniformly classified.

What is the working principle of a drum screener machine?

The working principle of a fertilizer drum screener machine can be summarized as rotary tumbling combined with particle size screening.

Once the equipment starts, the motor's power is transmitted through a speed reducer—which lowers speed while increasing torque—to drive the drum assembly to rotate at a constant speed around its axis via a chain or coupling. The drum is typically mounted on the frame at an inclination angle of 3° to 7°. Material enters the drum through the inlet at the higher end; as the drum rotates, the material is continuously lifted by the drum wall and then falls back down, creating a continuous tumbling motion.

As the material moves axially along the inclined drum toward the lower end, fine particles pass through the screen mesh openings to become the undersize fraction (finished product or intermediate material), while coarse particles (such as incompletely crushed material or substandard granules) are discharged from the lower end and returned to the production line for reprocessing. The entire process is continuous and stable.

The equipment is also typically equipped with an automatic plate-type screen cleaning mechanism. Through the relative movement between this mechanism and the screen body, the mesh is continuously "combed," ensuring the screen remains clean throughout operation and preventing screening efficiency from being compromised by clogged apertures.

The Role and Positioning of the Drum Screener Machine in a Fertilizer Production Line

A complete granular organic fertilizer production line comprises multiple stages, including fermentation, crushing, mixing, granulation, drying, screening, and packaging. The drum screener machine is typically positioned either after the drying and cooling stages and before packaging, or between the granulation and drying stages.

Its primary functions include:

Grading of finished products: Precisely classifying the dried and cooled fertilizer based on particle size and separating out compliant granules for packaging.

Separation of material for recycling: Separating oversized granules and fine powder that do not meet specifications and returning them to the granulator for reprocessing.

Impurity removal: Removing contaminants such as stones, wood fragments, and coarse fibers from the material.

Enhancing product quality: Ensuring uniformity and consistency in the finished granules, thereby improving the fertilizer's visual appeal and market value.

Comparison between drum Screener machines and Vibration Screener machines

Drum screener machine Vibration screener machine
Working Principle The rotating drum causes the material to tumble and undergo screening. High-frequency vibration causes the material to bounce on the screen surface.
Suitable materials Suitable for wet, sticky, and impurity-rich materials. Suitable for the precision grading of dry and granular materials.
Anti-blocking performance Equipped with a screen-cleaning mechanism; not prone to clogging. Wet material tends to stick to the screen and frequently causes mesh clogging.
Noise level Low noise The noise level is quite high.
Installation space Large in size; requires a spacious area. Compact structure, requiring minimal installation space.
Screening precision Low-to-medium precision; suitable for coarse screening and classification. High precision, suitable for fine classification.
Energy consumption Relatively low Usually lower than that of a drum screener machine.
