Analysis of the Differences between Roller Extrusion Granulator and Flat Mold Fertilizer Granulator

2025/03/21

The roller extrusion granulator and flat mold fertilizer granulator are widely used in the field of fertilizer production, and they have many differences in working principles, performance characteristics, and other aspects.

In terms of working principle, the twin roll extrusion granulator uses a pair of rolling rolls that rotate in opposite directions, with concave molds on the surface of the rolls. After entering the gap between the two rollers, the raw materials are pressed into the concave mold under strong extrusion pressure, and then cut to obtain particles. The flat mold fertilizer granulator is driven by a motor to rotate the flat mold, and the pressure roller applies pressure. The raw materials are extruded through the flat mold hole under the action of centrifugal force and friction, and are cut into granules by a cutting blade.

In terms of particle characteristics, the shape of the particles produced by the roller extrusion granulator depends on the shape of the concave mold, and can produce various shaped particles with high dimensional accuracy. Due to the high pressure during the extrusion process, the particle density is high and the strength is high. The particles produced by the flat mold granulator are generally cylindrical in shape, with a relatively uniform shape but a relatively uniform size. Its particle strength is relatively moderate, suitable for scenarios where particle strength requirements are not extremely high.

In terms of production efficiency, the production efficiency of the roller extrusion granulator is limited by the width and speed of the rollers, and the processing capacity is relatively limited. It is suitable for small and medium-sized production or production with special requirements for particle shape. The production efficiency of the flat mold fertilizer granulator is relatively high. The large area rotation and continuous feeding of the flat mold enable it to process more raw materials, making it more suitable for medium-sized fertilizer production.

The adaptability of raw materials also varies. The roller extrusion granulator has strict requirements for the particle size of the raw materials, which need to be uniform and small, otherwise it may affect the extrusion effect. At the same time, the requirement for viscosity is not high, and even no adhesive is needed. The flat mold fertilizer granulator has certain requirements for the viscosity of the raw materials, and materials with moderate viscosity are more conducive to forming through the mold holes. The requirements for raw material particle size are relatively relaxed.

In terms of equipment investment and maintenance costs, the roller extrusion granulator is relatively expensive due to its complex structure, especially the high processing and maintenance costs of the rollers. The structure of the flat mold fertilizer granulator is relatively simple, the equipment price is relatively low, and maintenance is also convenient. The main maintenance parts are the wear and tear of the flat mold and pressure roller.

The roller extrusion granulator and flat mold fertilizer granulator each have their own characteristics. When selecting fertilizer production enterprises, they should comprehensively consider factors such as their own production scale, raw material characteristics, product requirements, and cost budget to determine the most suitable granulation equipment.
